Sunny Gu

Jimmy at the Beach

McCullough St (Pedestrian Crossing) & MacGregor State School, MacGregor QLD
This artwork depicts a typical summer scene – taking the family dog (Jimmy) to the beach where he is enjoying refreshing watermelon. This artwork also pays homage to the local Sunnybank Asian community showing kites and noodles (which were both invented in China), and a dollar sign in the sun (“sunny bank”). The Chinese character on the kite is 福 which means fortune.
