And the glowing lights on the hill connect us all

St Pauls Tce & Brunswick St, Fortitude Valley QLD
I was often struck by the beauty of Mt Coot-tha on my commute home up Milton Road, the stark silhouettes of the broadcast towers and the glowing lights of the brewery felt SO Brisbane. Often I’d have the radio blaring, and occasionally spy another car with a 4ZZZ bumper sticker, and it always made me feel like I was a part of something bigger. A link in a chain, a node on a network. That’s the feeling I want to convey.

4ZZZ Artwork Competition

Early in 2022, community radio station 4ZZZ put out a call for artists to submit a design for a traffic signal box.
The 4ZZZ volunteers voted and Liz Witt’s design was chosen! Her design captures an afternoon when Liz was struck by the beauty of Mt Coot-tha while driving down Milton Rd just as she spotted another car’s 4ZZZ bumper sticker, and felt a connection to something bigger in Brisbane. Her artwork ‘And the glowing lights on the hill connect us all’ is located at the intersection of St Pauls Tce & Brunswick St, Fortitude Valley.
The Zed volunteers also connected with Elise Krkljes’s design which depicts rats alongside Maiwar (Brisbane River) carrying bananas (a 4ZZZ icon). Why rats? The 4ZZZ volunteers have long been affectionately known as ratbags!
‘Ratbags 4ZZZ’ is located at Wickham St & East St, Fortitude Valley
