Ratbags 4ZZZ

Wickham St & East St, Fortitude Valley QLD
My design shows a lot of rats walking up and down and around Maiwar (Brisbane River). They are carrying bananas (a 4ZZZ icon) in bags and on shoulders/arms. I chose rats because the 4ZZZ community has been known to be ratbags and the radio station has been around since 1975. The station is in Fortitude Valley so the box is perfect. I hope people will see my design and learn about community radio and also get inspiration for art.

4ZZZ artwork competition

Early in 2022, community radio station 4ZZZ put out a call for artists to submit a design for a traffic signal box.
The 4ZZZ volunteers voted and Liz Witt’s design was chosen! Her design captures an afternoon when Liz was struck by the beauty of Mt Coot-tha while driving down Milton Rd just as she spotted another car’s 4ZZZ bumper sticker, and felt a connection to something bigger in Brisbane. Her artwork ‘And the glowing lights on the hill connect us all’ is located at the intersection of St Pauls Tce & Brunswick St, Fortitude Valley.
The Zed volunteers also connected with Elise Krkljes’s design which depicts rats alongside Maiwar (Brisbane River) carrying bananas (a 4ZZZ icon). Why rats? The 4ZZZ volunteers have long been affectionately known as ratbags!
‘Ratbags 4ZZZ’ is located at Wickham St & East St, Fortitude Valley
