Internet Emo Scene

Wickham St & Constance St, Fortitude Valley QLD
With this traffic signal box being surrounded by local live music venues beloved by the young clubbing and gig scene, it was important this design reflected an aesthetic audiences would recognize and find joy in. The internet imagery takes reference from alternative styles including, scene, emo, and punk, many seen in venues such as Quivr and The Brightside. The design features a bright pink color pallet, bringing a consistent themes as well as bright recognizable images for the box to be visible on the otherwise grey street. Nat took stars, rats, and cats and drew them with various simple techniques to resemble an early internet nostalgia. Em then embedded pink monochromatic chains, enabling the design to remain collaborative, consistent with the color pallet, and cohesive – the design elements being mirrored adds an element of symmetry in a more Freeform design.
