Four Runs and a Fur Ball

Ellison Rd & Kirby Rd, Aspley QLD
Marchant Park has as many cricket fields as it can physically fit. I knew I wanted the design to feel happy and to reflect the surroundings it is in. The design uses the recognisable imagery of the sport and happy colours to showcase the area and to give the viewer joy. My dog Kimba makes an appearance on the field possibly excited by chasing the ball as a humorous touch.

A REASON TO SMILE AT MARCHANT PARK

Rachel Bradley brings a touch of humour and local sporting spirit to Aspley with her vibrant cricket inspired design.

A lifelong Brisbane resident, Rachel has spent years admiring the city’s painted signal boxes and dreaming of contributing her own design to the streets. While she has always dabbled in art as a personal passion rather than a career, the opportunity to share her work in such a public way served as a major motivator. Her goal was simple: to create something happy that reflects the unique character of her local area.

Her artwork, ‘Four Runs and a Fur Ball’, is a direct tribute to Marchant Park and its many cricket fields. The design uses recognisable sporting imagery, a joyful colour palette, and story-book style to celebrate the active lifestyle of the community. In a playful and humorous twist, Rachel’s own dog, Kimba, makes an appearance on the field, looking eager to chase down a stray ball. By combining local landmarks with personal touches, the work gives passersby a reason to smile and find joy in their daily commute.
