A Queen’s View

William Street & Elizabeth Street, Brisbane City QLD
My box design draws inspiration from its surroundings: Brisbane River, Queens Gardens, and the common view of the city’s fireworks. Visible from the site, the Brisbane River is South-East Queensland’s longest river and a vital hub for transport, recreation, and aquaculture; I used its distinctive shape in my design. Fish and coral motifs reference Queensland’s beach culture and Street Beach at South Bank, accessible via City Cat near the box. The crown symbolizes the box’s location beside Queens Gardens, a popular community spot. The starburst motif represents the city’s yearly fireworks displays whether it be river fire or new year’s eve. The location of the box is near to where many people go to view the display. I used a consistent colour palate of cool blues as my main base, and bright orange and yellows as a complementary colours. These colours contrast against the nulled colours of the natural city, which make the box stand out. My design concept aims to reflect both Brisbane and Queensland as a dynamic, central area flowing like water.
