FRESH FROM THE BIN

‘One man’s trash is another ibis’s treasure’ celebrates Brisbane’s iconic ‘bin chicken’ with a tongue-in-cheek twist.

Mimi Smrecnik is an emerging talent and a passionate young creative who was recently recognised as Artist of the Term and featured in Loreto College’s art showcase. Her love for design and storytelling shines through her work, which often express bold, playful concepts that engage the local community. For Mimi, Artforce Brisbane is an opportunity to share her unique perspective and sense of fun with the streets of Coorparoo.

Reimagining a traditional supermarket, Mimi has devised a bespoke deli tailored specifically to the ‘bin diet’ of Brisbane’s most resilient avian icon. Filled with everyday rubbish and discarded items, the fictional storefront transforms a mundane traffic signal box into a vibrant local hero, celebrating the scrappy personality and resourceful nature of the beloved ibis.
