Box of Friends

Oxley Rd & Clewley St, Corinda QLD
There is a school across the intersection, so I decided to go with this design. This art is about how different people can be, but they still get along anyway. If everyone was the same, wouldn’t it be a boring world? It is meant to be bright and colourful so it will grab peoples attention and stand out. This is also meant to make people think about their own friends and family and how different they all are but how much you love all of them.

BEYOND THE BRIGHT COLOURS

First Nations artist Immogyn Jones celebrates the beauty of diversity with her playful artwork, ‘Box of Friends’.

Based in Brisbane with Dalungbarra heritage from Rainbow Beach and K’gari, Immogyn is a multidisciplinary creator whose work spans music, prose, and visual arts. While she enjoys creating artworks that reflect deeply on her identity and cultural heritage, Immogyn also revels in the ‘cute and silly’ side of creativity. She invents her sometimes surreal works by balancing harmony, discord, and structure.

‘Box of Friends’ was designed for its location near a school. Using a bright and colourful palette to grab the attention of students and commuters alike, the artwork expresses how people from all walks of life can find harmony through difference. As a vibrant celebration of friendship, she invites passers-by to reflect on the diverse mix of friends and family that make their own lives so colourful.
