Artforce Brisbane Awards Night: what to expect

All Artforce program participants are invited to the annual awards of their program year.

The Awards is a family-friendly, semi-formal event where everyone is welcome. Suggested attire is smart casual.

We’ve put together some information so you know what to expect.

Artforce Brisbane Awards Night

The Awards function is held in the Brisbane Room on Level 1 of Brisbane City Hall in King George Square, Brisbane City. 


Enter City Hall using the Ann Street entrance. Take an elevator or stairs to Level 1.

The Brisbane Room is a large, light, airy, room with a high ceiling, seating around 200 people.

There is a stage with speaker’s podium and a large screen behind.

There are men’s and women’s bathrooms to the left and right of the entrance. There are also bathrooms available in the Brisbane Room, to the left of the stage. Each of these bathrooms are wheelchair accessible.

Between 6 and 6.30pm, guests are welcomed into the small foyer of the Brisbane Room, where their names are checked off, and they are asked to sign for approval for use of their image in publicity shots.

When entering the Brisbane Room, guests will see a table to their left with tote bags – each Artforce Brisbane participant is free to help themselves to one of these.

Every tote bag contains a participant certificate and 2 magnets featuring Artforce artworks.

Guests are then free to mingle and to help themselves to food or drinks being served by Epicure staff (wearing black pants and white tops).

There will be an area set up with a replica traffic signal box and some fun props for people to take photos and make some fun memories of the night.


We will send you any images taken of you by the professional photographer after the event.

There will also be a rolling screen presentation of all the Artforce artworks

There will also be a rolling screen presentation of all the Artforce artworks from the Award year. You’re welcome to take a seat and watch.

6.30pm: The presentation ceremony begins. Beth Jackson from the Artforce Brisbane team, will speak at the podium on stage, welcoming everyone to the Awards night, and asking people to take a seat. Beth will be em-cee for the night.


If Deaf/Hard of Hearing people are in attendance, there will also be an Auslan interpreter on stage.

6.30pm: The presentation ceremony begins. Beth Jackson MC.

There will be a Welcome to Country followed by a short music performance.

Then there will be 3 short speeches by
the Lord Mayor of Brisbane (or representative) and two guest speakers.

At 7pm, the Awards ceremony begins. Each category will be introduced by Beth or Susan from the Artforce team. Images with the artist’s name and their artwork’s title will be introduced and shown on the big screen. 



The winner of each category will be announced after all participants in that category have been displayed.

After announcement, each winner comes to the stage, accepts their award and cash prize, and stands with the Lord Mayor for a photo before returning to their seat.

To finish the formal proceedings, closing remarks will be given by a staff person from Council’s Design Brisbane team.


The award winners then gather on stage for a group photo with the Lord Mayor, or representative.

Approximately 7.45pm

The awards ceremony finishes, and guests are free to move about the space again, and help themselves to dessert, located on the back table, near the entrance foyer.



The event concludes at 8pm.

TO BE ELIGIBLE

You must be a resident of Brisbane ie. living within the Brisbane City Council area.
You must not be an employee of Brisbane City Council.
You must not have painted more than two traffic signal boxes in a four year period and not in consecutive years.
