Our artists were actively engaged in the design process. The COCA team had a formal meeting in March to discuss the Artforce project. The group determined their interest and brainstormed design potentials.
Six artists came up with an individual design prior to a site location. Julia’s design related to fruit and Lara had created a robot. Once the site was determined by Artforce, we naturally incorporated the local surrounds and decided to use the Robot as the main image and have robot hands holding objects that can be found at the location. The artists were asked to incorporate images of learning (kindy + school across the road), garden care (there is a lot of rubbish in the garden), healthy food (Rochedale markets) and sun smart (as there is a lack of shade at that intersection). Our aim is to inspire the children and families to take care of themselves and the planet through healthy eating + sun protection, engaging in creative learning and picking up rubbish to care for the planet and all its creatures. Zenith means – the time at which something is most powerful or successful and relates to the celestial movement. We believe that children (humans) can reach their zenith through self care, planet care and utilising technology appropriately.
