Your Mountain Awaits!

Logan Rd (Pedestrian Crossing) & Mt Gravatt Shops, Mt Gravatt QLD
The artwork portrays a bright scene that incorporates a representation of Mt Gravatt mountain with a cafe at its summit. In the sky is a cheerful rainbow and in the foreground are colourful flowers made from the hand prints of our family. Our family grew up around Mt Gravatt and I would like to incorporate the handprints as a symbol of the connection our family has together and with the local area. I’ve included the Dr Seuss quote “Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, so… get on your way!” to reflect the positivity we derive from the Mt Gravatt mountain walks and summit and inspire viewers on their journeys.

EVERY MOUNTAIN TOP IS WITHIN REACH IF YOU JUST KEEP CLIMBING

‘Your Mountain Awaits!’ by Kylie Smart and her family, is located near and inspired by the Mt Gravatt reserve, with its café sitting atop the summit, and the incredible views of Brisbane City that it offers.

To come up with the box’s design, Kylie brainstormed ideas with her family, with parts of it coming from everyone: her brother suggested a landscape, her husband said to include a rainbow as their kids love them, and while on a drive up the mountain, her son suggested trees and rainbow lorikeets. Kylie included the Dr Seuss quote, ‘Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, so … get on your way!’ to reflect the positivity and opportunities that the mountain provides, through mountain walks and summit experience.

All of this, along with the family’s handprints that make up the colourful flowers blooming across the mountain, have created a fun, striking and collaborative artwork by the Smart and Jarrad families.
