Windows of Time

Merivale St & Vulture St & Tribune St, South Brisbane QLD
This artwork celebrates the surrounding architecture, designs, and patterns we see and experience in South Brisbane on a daily basis. Patterns like these often go unnoticed, but it is these very patterns that ultimately make up the spaces around us. Inspiration was drawn from local buildings with points of architectural interest – particularly the wheel windows that adorn the churches in the area. The bright colours of the artwork are drawn from the patterned facades of neighbouring contemporary buildings capturing purple, yellow and green accents. The aim of the abstracted art piece is to reimagine and accentuate these details which represent the foundation and the evolution of South Brisbane’s character. The artwork can be seen as an overlay of old and new details and shows appreciation for the beauty in symmetry and the simplicity of the patterns we are surrounded by.

Patterns of South Brisbane

Andrea Dukes created ‘Windows of Time’ to celebrate the surrounding architecture, designs and patterns of South Brisbane.

With a background in architecture, Andrea notices the patterns that make up the spaces around us, and has incorporated many of them into her mesmerising design. Inspiration came from local buildings with points of architectural interest, including the wheel windows that adorn the churches in the area, and the patterned facades of neighbouring contemporary buildings. With this artwork, Andrea wanted to ‘reimagine and accentuate these details which represent the foundation and evolution of South Brisbane’s character’.
