The design pays tribute to the rich natural and cultural elements of the suburb. The fauna and flora represent the abundance of green spaces, while the cricket bat and ball reference Kianawah Park, the oldest park in the area, known for its extensive facilities, including cricket grounds. The bicycle icon symbolises the network of bike paths winding through Tingalpa’s parks, part of Brisbane’s broader cycling routes.
The kangaroo pays homage to the possible origin of Tingalpa’s name, which may derive from an Aboriginal expression referring to a “fat kangaroo.” The background pattern depicting flowing water is a reference to Bulimba Creek and Tingalpa Tributary Creek, natural boundaries that define the suburb’s landscape. Finally, the depiction of a family highlights Tingalpa’s reputation for offering a peaceful and family-friendly lifestyle.
