This Must Be the Place – Hendra Edition. Talking Heads’ song “This Must Be the Place” is all about that quiet, almost accidental sense of belonging—and that’s exactly the feeling Hendra gives off. Tucked between racecourses and leafy streets, Hendra doesn’t shout for attention. It’s calm, a little nostalgic, and full of subtle beauty—like the soft pastels and curved lines of its Art Deco homes. There’s colour if you’re looking, history in the details, and a kind of stillness that feels like home without trying too hard. The song says, “Home is where I want to be, but I guess I’m already there.” And in Hendra, that kind of sneaks up on you. A quiet street. A breeze. A melody you didn’t know you needed. Yeah… this must be the place.

Richard McMahon has honed his craft as an automotive spray painter, bringing a lifelong passion for street and custom art to life on everything from sneakers to race cars.

Now, Richard’s creativity finds a new canvas in Hendra with his artwork This must be the place. Feeding Artforce Resene paints into an airbrush, he has achieved impressive results.

Inspired by Talking Heads’ song ‘This Must Be the Place’ and the suburb’s quiet charm, the artwork reflects Hendra’s calm, nostalgic beauty with its leafy streets, Art Deco homes, and subtle sense of belonging. With family roots tied deeply to the area, the artwork draws on local connections, capturing the feeling of home that ‘sneaks up on you’.

You must not be an employee of Brisbane City Council.
You must not have painted more than two traffic signal boxes in a four year period and not in consecutive years.
