Garden City is more than just a shopping centre to me – it feels like my second home. It is where I got my first job and where I continue to grow as a person. Through my time here, I have met people who showed kindness, helped me during my struggles, and reminded me that I was never alone.
In my artwork, the mountains represent Mount Gravatt, while the people, flowers, and bright colours, symbolise hope, connection, and community. The broken ladder represents the difficult moments in life when we feel lost or hopeless. But even in those moments, there are still people willing to reach out their hands, support us, and help us rise again. Although Garden City may no longer be filled with many gardens, I believe the people are what make it beautiful – not of a scenery, but because of the community and feeling of belonging it gives to others, including me.
