Spotto!

Moggill Rd & Station Rd, Indooroopilly QLD
Spotto! is an eye-catching, summery scene featuring a yellow car sitting under a blooming jacaranda tree as its petals rain down, enveloping the vehicle. I was inspired by the masses of jacaranda trees currently in bloom around Indooroopilly, and the number of cars parked under them, covered in blankets of purple. This traffic signal box is positioned in front of one of the many car dealerships around Indooroopilly, another source of my inspiration, and the scene captures the relatably irritating and common occurrence for car owners during spring, and turns it into a playful, whimsical scene with a humorous twist. The number plate and bright yellow colour references the classic Aussie car game, spotto, often played by kids on car rides and walks to school. This colourful, engaging design captures a wide audience and aims to brighten the day of anyone driving by or stopped at the light, either kids going to school or commuters going to work. Overall, it’s a fun tribute to the Indooroopilly scene and Australia’s playful, creative culture that works to bring the community together through humour and shared experiences.

A CLASSIC GAME AND ICONIC SCENERY ALL IN ONE

Charlie Houle’s artwork, ‘Spotto!’ is a nostalgic throwback to the Aussie car game played for generations.

Charlie’s artwork references the fun, quick and never-ending game ‘spotto’ often played by kids on car rides and walks to school. She was inspired by all of the Jacaranda trees in bloom in the area in late 2024, and the cars parked under them, covered in blankets of purple.

Charlie’s design is a fun tribute to the Indro area, being located outside a car dealership, and to Australia’s playful, creative culture that brings people together through humour and shared experiences.

Charlie was assisted by her twin sister, Taylor Houle, and supported by Indooroopilly State High School which they both attend.
