Isabelle Heaton

she’s sweet like a flower

Ipswich Rd & O'Keefe St, Woolloongabba QLD
Women are historically often compared to flowers; sweet, delicate, easily domesticated. Flowers, however, are beautiful but fleeting, abundant in adverse elements and are synonymous with femininity. In this work I wanted to depict a tranquil woman existing in harmony alongside flowers, embracing her femininity. The flowers selected relate to the local area as they grow just behind the box. Painting flowers directly from the site grounds the work within the site. I hope viewers feel a sense of peace upon looking at the work. Feminism can be angry, but importantly it fights for a pathway to the future, to a place of peace. I hope to instil that sense of hope in people, and respect.
