‘Polynesian Voyagers’ is inspired by our rich Polynesian heritage. Being Samoan, Tongan, Cook Island & Maori we wanted to incorporate these into our design. We also want to use this to encourage Pacific Island, Polynesians that they too can put their art work, talents out into the world.
Front: We have added a Samoan & Tongan girl with her cultural wear on. Below this we have 8 hibiscus which is a common flower seen throughout Polynesian Islands, also 8 representing our family.
Side: We have drawn an electric guitar dedicated to Neil who is the man that lives in the house next to the traffic signal box. We mentioned we would be doing some art and if he had any preferences – he mentioned he likes heavy metal.
Back: Back we have added “hello” in all 4 languages Cook Island, Tongan, Samoan & Maori.
Below we have a girl with Cook Island & Maori cultural attire on. We have incorporated some of our symbols – Fish, Kina (sea urchin) different sea life as these are plentiful in New Zealand & the Pacific Islands.
Side: We have dedicated this to some of our beautiful Polynesian designs; the top panel is known as Laufala (flax plant) which can symbolise the continuation of our heritage, family bonds. Below we have added the Tongan hei lala flower and Samoan sharks teeth.
