Patterns and Place

Ipswich Rd & School Rd, Annerley QLD
My design references local history and refers to some of the many uses of Yeronga Memorial Park. It shows: fig trees – planted in 1917-19 – surrounded by poppies for remembrance; the pool nearby where children learn to swim; patterning inspired by the old Chardon’s Corner Hotel verandah; and lead light window patterning inspired by the local leadlight business. I hope my design will encourage people to reflect on just how precious shared public space is and to celebrate the local parklands set aside for public use so long ago.
