“It doesn’t have to be perfect to be wonderful” is the core motto Kirsty lives by and shares with the children who attend her twice-weekly after-school Art & Craft Club. She believes everyone has an inner artist, and that as a society we benefit from slowing down and letting go of unrealistic ideals of perfection and rarified notions of art.
Kirsty’s painting project created an opportunity for the children in her Art & Craft Club to be part of something bigger. A total of 42 people, including 35 children, were involved which is an amazing logistical victory and surely an Artforce record! The young budding artists contributed their own energy, marks, and painted squares. They now share ownership of the artwork and experience the pride of seeing their creativity valued in the public realm by the wider community.
This piece reminds us that creativity thrives when we let go of perfection, make space for play, and celebrate the wonderful results that come from simply having a go.
