Magic After Dark in Norman Park

Canara St & Crown St, Norman Park QLD
Growing up locally, I’ve always loved the sense of magic that appears when day turns to night in our leafy suburb. In Magic After Dark, I’ve tried to capture this feeling of wonder, gratitude and belonging – imagining Norman Park’s natural beauty, community spirit and heart through a playful and whimsical lens. The design celebrates the green, lively spirit of Norman Park, transforming the traffic box into a bold, distinctive landmark that enhances pride, connection, and the feeling of safety and comfort in our shared spaces. Butterflies twirl under a sleepy moon, flowers shimmer, and little creatures play hide and seek among the trees in their after-dark community – a simple, peaceful world where nature is cherished and the pace of everyday life slows down. Bright colours and playful details wrap the traffic box in a joyful invitation for locals and visitors alike to pause, smile, and rediscover the adventures – and the hidden magic – waiting in their own backyard. I wanted to create an artwork that feels playful and full of discovery, something that would invite people of all ages to pause, smile, and reconnect with the wonder of their everyday surroundings. The flowing colours and hidden details celebrate the vibrant, welcoming spirit of this community, transforming a simple traffic box into a little beacon of imagination and local pride.
