Cloud Museum

Melbourne St & Grey St, South Brisbane QLD
Cloud Museum reimagines the traffic signal box as a floating gallery in the sky, where familiar objects and symbols emerge from painterly clouds. A dinosaur, books, a bicycle, a coffee cup, a paintbrush, and a classical bust appear and dissolve like daydreams, reflecting both local culture and universal themes. Each object represents a facet of the community: the museum and gallery precinct, the nearby library, the everyday ritual of coffee, the city’s active lifestyle, and the creativity at the heart of South Brisbane. By blending these motifs seamlessly into cloud forms, the design invites passersby to pause, look, and find meaning in small details… reminding us that we are all part of something larger, a living museum of shared experiences.

IN THE CLOUDS

Hillary Wall’s artwork ‘Cloud Museum’ transforms a traffic signal box into a floating gallery.

Everyday objects and symbols drift through painterly clouds, capturing the light hearted feeling and imaginative curiosity of South Bank and the Cultural Precinct.

A dinosaur, books, a bicycle, a coffee cup, a paintbrush, a classical bust, and more appear and dissolve like daydreams, reflecting both local culture and universal themes. Each element nods to South Brisbane’s creative and cultural life from galleries and libraries to daily rituals and community energy.

A hidden message on the back of the box reads “Look Up. The Sky is full of ideas. Make yours exist.”
