Central Hive

Queen St & Creek St, Brisbane QLD
Central Hive is a playful celebration of the “beeee-usy-ness” of Brisbane’s CBD. Just like a hive buzzing with energy, the city is filled with people commuting, working, exploring, and contributing to the rhythm of daily life. I imagined this liveliness through a cast of cheerful bee characters, each representing a different worker, commuter, or visitor who helps the city hum. The top half of the artwork features the “Central Hive” train, a nod to Central Station and the constant movement flowing in and out of the city. Below, bees of all professions fly around Queen Street Mall, mingling with buses, buildings, and everyday city details. From construction bees to office bees to the coffee-fuelled morning bee, each one reflects the diverse personalities that make Brisbane feel alive. By turning the Brisbane CBD into a whimsical beehive, I wanted to highlight the charm, humour, and warmth found in the small moments of city life. Whether you’re rushing to work, grabbing a quick lunch, or simply passing through, Central Hive invites you to pause, smile, and see yourself as part of the buzz.
