Caring for our Heritage

Wynnum Rd & Ison St & Redfern St, Morningside QLD
The artwork features 3 significant historical buildings that still exist in Morningside Brisbane: the Morningside School of Arts; Georgina House (Georgina Hostel & Nursing Home); Rossiter’s House (The oldest house in Morningside). These images of our architectural heritage sit on pink, cream, blue, and lilac background segments which reflect the nearby mosaic mural work in the adjacent Anzac Memorial. Lilac sections were added into the design to tie-in with the annual October display of Jacaranda blossoms that surround the Morningside School of Arts hall. All of the imagery is ‘wrapped’ in a painted white crepe bandage pinned with a red poppy paying homage to the hall’s history as a Memorial Hall in the 1920’s. This bandage directs the title of the work “Caring for our Heritage”.
