Every morning at Three Peas, we gather together to say our “thank you and promise”. Our children are experts at finding, observing, investigating, recording and caring for the living creatures that they encounter in our environment. Every day our children remind us of the value and preciousness of the natural world through their curiosity, wonder and love. It is through this connection that we pay our respects to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples (and especially the Turrbal people) for being the “first caretakers of the land, the animals and the people.” Our children embody this respect by being “the next caretakers” of the land, animals and people that they know and love. The creation of this artwork will help to empower our children to share their voice through drawing, a language that they know well and use daily. We hope to inspire those in our community to identify and act as caretakers.
