By the rock pools

Fig Tree Pocket Rd & Kenmore Rd, Fig Tree Pocket QLD
The painting captures my experience of playing in rock pools near the Fig Tree Pocket area including Cubberla Creek and exploring the natural environment. The design is meant to appear as water colour and be vibrant in the natural world. I would like viewers to appreciate the nature around them as they pass through the Fig Tree Pocket area.

ROOTS IN THE ROCK POOLS

‘By the Rock Pools’ is a luminous window into the wild pockets of Brisbane’s western suburbs.

Kelly Simon is a Brisbane-based lawyer originally from South Africa who has been painting since the age of two. Having spent her formative years in Kenmore and Fig Tree Pocket, her creative work is rooted in a connection to the local landscape and the people within it. Through Artforce Brisbane, Kelly’s passion for the environment comes to life as she shares the beauty of the natural world with the community she grew up in.

Her artwork, ‘By the Rock Pools’, is a vibrant, watercolour inspired tribute to her childhood memories of exploring Cubberla Creek. Using a fluid and luminous palette, Kelly captures the serene and vital essence of Fig Tree Pocket’s hidden gems. The design invites passers-by to pause and appreciate the pockets of wilderness that weave through their neighbourhoods.
