Our designs seek to raise awareness of and start conversations about our local history that viewers are walking or driving through, whilst recognising and promoting the contemporary context of the community facilities and organisations of the dynamic suburban hub that is Chermside.
John French was a corporal from Crows Nest, Qld, whose brave sacrifice saved the lives of his comrades at Milne Bay. Posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross, his memorial bridge is near this box. Our design honours him and his origins through his portrait and the addition of a crow and its nest on a branch of a hoop pine tree (the Old pines found in Marchant Park, across the road). A kittyhawk flies above, off into the distance.
