Cycles of the Southside (Part 2)

Montague Rd & Merivale St & Go-Between Bridge, South Brisbane QLD
Beyond the famous skyline, Cycles of the Southside uncovers the quiet rhythms and hidden corners of the city, inviting the viewer to explore these scenes as if on a treasure hunt. The work follows the sun and moon as they arc across the sky, marking a passage of time over our local landscape. The artwork covers 2 co-located traffic signal boxes. Both artworks incorporate the William Jolly Bridge, a heritage gateway leading into Brisbane’s creative heart. Here, the Gallery of Modern Art and the Queensland Art Gallery stand alongside the Queensland Museum of Kurilpa and Cultural Centre. The viewer travels riverside amongst urban and natural landscapes. The Neville Bonner Bridge frames the rising silhouette of The Star Brisbane. Nearby, festival lanterns act as a visual bridge, connecting the city’s architecture to the glowing spirit of our community.
