Iconography: MACARANGA LEAF – The Macaranga is of old-world genesis and is considered a re-coloniser or pioneer plant; meaning after devastation (ie floods) it will be one of the first plants to grow back and breathe new life into the space. BRISBANE RIVER FLOOD – Graphical representation of the flood map around the Brisbane region. Conceptually playing with the ideas of Country and Place. GUM LEAF – Reference to the blue gum ridge that use to be present in Brisbane’s history. Statement: With all this in mind, the work is looking to pull together these stories from the iconography to tell a uniquely Brisbane story. The colours selected taking inspiration from previous work with Artforce, the natural dying properties of the leaves themselves; Macaranga bringing out yellows and Gums leaves bringing out Reds, with the blue hinting at rivers/waters and the Blue Gum forest.
