Water connects us all

First Nations Women Supporting Each Other

Yadjin Yadu Wonga is a support group for First Nations women, who came together to paint four boxes across Magandjin in late 2022.

This support group is from the organisation for Brisbane Rape and Incest Survivors Support Centre (BRISSC), who are ‘continually on our healing journey to break cycles throughout generations by healing’.

‘Water Connects Us All’ and ‘Speak Out Stand Up’ were painted by the group, ‘Meanjin Sunrise’ was painted by Aunty Dawn Daylight and ‘Break Cycles Create New Ones’ was painted by Shanice Eggmolesse, and Kahka Link, Chantay Link, Aiyarna Link and Luther Link. All were facilitated by Uraine Roelofs. Shanice Eggmolesse also facilitated ‘Water Connects Us All’.

Aunty Dawn offered an Acknowledgement of Country to begin the 2022 Artforce Awards evening, and warmly shared stories of her painting experience.
